Emily was born and raised in the border lands between Cincinnati, Ohio and Northern Kentucky. She has a BFA in fiber and textile art from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Emily is inspired by the fantastical and the everyday and how these shape peoples' perception of the world. She draws inspiration from mythology, folktales, and memories and is interested in how these have long helped people make sense of their world by giving form to their collective fears and desires. She has studied and participated in ritual theater and contemporary puppetry in Indonesia, as well as political puppet theater with Bread and Puppet and processional events in the United States. She is most interested in the power of these visual forms to create immersive and transformative experiences for participants and viewers.
